Claude Code cloud sessions

Also known as: cloud sessions, Claude Code cloud, remote Claude Code sessions

A mode where Claude Code keeps running on Anthropic-hosted infrastructure after you close your laptop. Tasks continue, your machine can go offline, and you reconnect later to review or redirect the work.

Cloud sessions are Anthropic's answer to a real pain with coding agents: the job stops when your machine does. With cloud sessions, Claude Code runs on remote infrastructure managed by Anthropic, so a long refactor, a big migration, or a test-generation pass keeps going overnight or across a meeting, with no local process to babysit.

The feature reached general availability in late September 2026 after a research preview. You can launch a session from the claude.ai/code web interface, the Claude mobile app, the desktop app, or the CLI with claude --cloud. Each session runs on its own branch and repo copy, and state is preserved so you can pick up exactly where things stand. Enterprise teams can route sessions to self-hosted runners inside their own networks instead of using Anthropic's infrastructure.

For builders, cloud sessions shift agentic coding from a 'sit and watch' workflow to a 'dispatch and check in' one. The practical implication is that task scope now matters more than session length, and async review becomes the natural interaction pattern rather than the exception.
