Claude Cowork
Also known as: Cowork
Claude Cowork is Anthropic's step toward making Claude a team-oriented work product rather than a personal assistant. It allows multiple users to collaborate within a shared Claude workspace, with Claude participating as an active team member rather than a tool each person uses separately. The feature launched alongside Opus 4.6 in February 2026 and was part of Anthropic's broader push to integrate Claude into everyday work surfaces including Microsoft PowerPoint and Excel.
The Cowork feature set includes shared document editing with Claude's direct participation, the ability to delegate tasks to Claude and see its work alongside human contributors, and connections to shared knowledge bases so the whole team's Claude context can draw from the same documents and instructions. This positions it in the same category as AI-enhanced productivity products like Microsoft Copilot for Teams or Notion AI, but within Anthropic's standalone Claude ecosystem.
For builders evaluating team-oriented AI products, Cowork matters as a signal of where Anthropic is taking Claude beyond the individual user. If you're building enterprise tooling or workflows where team collaboration is central, understanding how Cowork handles permissions, shared context, and task delegation gives useful context for what the Claude API can and cannot yet replicate programmatically.
