Agentic video production

Also known as: AI video production pipeline, multi-agent video generation

Using a coordinated set of AI agents to handle the full video production pipeline: scripting, scene planning, visual generation, editing, and rendering, going from a prompt or document to a finished video with minimal human intervention.

Single-model text-to-video tools (like Sora or Veo) generate short clips from a prompt. Agentic video production is a layer above that: multiple specialized agents coordinate across the entire production chain. One agent interprets the creative brief, another handles script and scene breakdown, another calls video generation models for each shot, another handles audio or voiceover, and an editing agent assembles and trims the result. The output is a polished multi-scene video, not just a 10-second clip.

OpenMontage (calesthio/OpenMontage on GitHub, 63,000 stars as of October 2026) became the most prominent open-source example: an agentic video production system with 12 production pipelines, over 100 tools, and 700 agent skill files. The skill files are the key building block: each one gives an agent a specific capability in the pipeline, from timing cuts to picking background music, and they can be composed and extended.

The business relevance is significant for any team producing marketing videos, product demos, training content, or social media at scale. What previously required a video editor, a voiceover artist, and a motion designer can increasingly be driven by a prompted pipeline. The main limitations today are consistency across cuts, coherent character or brand identity across scenes, and the quality ceiling of underlying generation models. Both are improving fast.
