ChatGPT Work

ChatGPT Work is OpenAI's answer to a question the whole industry was asking at once: what does an AI-native work product actually look like? It launched July 9, 2026, the same day as GPT-5.6 Sol and Grok 4.5, and it represents OpenAI's first product designed explicitly around getting work done rather than answering questions.

The product sits between the ChatGPT chat interface and the more technical Codex tooling. It's built for teams: shared context, task delegation to agents, integrations with the tools organizations already use. Think of it as OpenAI's attempt to be where work happens, not just where questions get answered. It launched the same week Anthropic's Claude Cowork reached web and mobile, and a few weeks after Microsoft made Agent 365 generally available, confirming that AI-native work collaboration had become a distinct competitive category.

For builders and founders, ChatGPT Work matters less as a product to build on and more as a signal about where the market is heading. When the biggest AI labs all launch team-oriented work products in the same month, it shifts the competitive context for anyone building productivity tooling, workflow automation, or enterprise AI features.
